How Do You Create A Playlist To Represent Four Of The Most Important Years Of Your Life? You Borrow From The Best
Music Has The Innate Ability To Encapsulate The Feelings In A Moment. The first school I ever attended had one a theme that my parents were thrilled with, The Beatles. As such, since the age of three I have cultivated a deeply rooted love of the 60's British rock band which has not wained but grown ever stronger. Because it they are my parents favorite band, that means that they are mine as well and each time I listen to their music, which it quite often, it makes me think of them. For this reason and many other reasons my view of the world is with Beatles lyrics in mind and each time I see or do anything, I somehow relate it to a song that was written 50 years ago. In fact the reason why I made the portfolio in the form of a new paper is two fold, one because I am a news junkie who reads The New York Times every day, but secondly because my favorite Beatles' song is called A Day in A Life. This song which is their magnum opus making it arguably one of the best songs ever made begins each verse with the phrase "I read the news today, oh boy" and plays the melancholy mundane events that appear in a news paper. For that reason I feel it evokes a strong feeling of sadness at the mundane and the ending of something as well as the irony of how the moments are not all that meaningful. But at I feel like at the same time I turn this feeling on its head to think about how each individual moment may not have a great deal of meaning in itself, but collectively their sum is what makes a life what it is.
For each "story" in my news paper portfolio I will have a particular Beatles song in mind that is representative of the emotions of that moment in my four years attending UW and below you will see a playlist of all of these songs together.
